Magee Women's Hospital

Welcome

Hello My name is Jennifer Kehm and thank you for taking time to visit our website.

When I was 36 years old I found a lump in my breast.  My gynecologist assured me it was a cyst because of my age. Thankfully, he did recommend that I pursue a mammogram just to be safe. A few weeks later to my surprise, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.

I was lucky that my doctor took the lump seriously. Many women under forty go undiagnosed because there is a common misconception among  women and doctors that they are "too young" for breast cancer.

Young women do get breast cancer. Many times it is detected further along than it could be due to lack of screening

Early detection is the key to surviving cancer. That is why Lisa Edmonds and I decided to start the Young Women's Breast Cancer Foundation. Our mission is to educate and create an awareness about breast cancer in younger women.

We hope to challenge women to perform monthly self breast exams and talk to a doctor about any changes to your breasts. Force your doctor to take your concerns seriously. Not every cancer can be detected through self breast exams, but many can.

Make an investment in your own health. Do a self breast exam today especially if you are not regularly getting screening.
